I heard there's a new standard called Unicode. I wonder what's it all about...
Oh, forgot to say: heard about it some 15 years ago or so...

True! I've read some time ago the same thing: patients are actually called 'units' and they are referred to by their numbers. This may be an efficient way to deal with such a large volume of people and data, but beyond that I feel there's (almost) no kind of human feelings involved but rather just 'professionals doing their job' - mechanics and greasemonkeys fixing cars, nothing more.

I've been in the hospital at the age of three, nearly died twice then. Well, I'd rather die in my bed rather than a hospital bed that can barely wait to send the bill to whomever's left alive in my family. :(

Sorry about that. It isn't the forum software, our SQL server is set so it recognizes and prefers northern european languages because there are some other business software, Web sites and services installed on these servers. We forgot to set the correct SQL collation upon installing the forum software and creating its database. That is something we will have to live with for a while.

It's quite a coincidence that you brought up advertising. I was just sitting here thinking about healthcare. As you may know, it's become something of a hot topic here in the States. I was thinking about the big hospital down the street here. They (administration?) have advertisements all over the place with people smiling, playing golf, families hugging, et cetra. When I went there for some care, they want to run test, get x-rays, PET and CAT scans even when they are most likely unnecessary and you get the feeling that you're nothing more than a number.

Can't help thinking that if the money spent on sending the messages that you will be happy, you're family will be more loving and the various other horseshit spewed were spent on the care of patients, things might be better somehow.

That name in the first picture: Emanuel Jumatate... Sounds a bit phoney. Jumatate (missing diacritics quietly accepted) is the Romanian word for 'half'. That's quite an uncommon name even by us - not that it couldn't be real, of course. But I always feel this underlying question waiting to pop up: why are there always mostly (or only) uncommon names that come up in the news, when odds would be against that?

Anyway, who wouldn't hug an (empty) box in front of a camera, for a few bucks and the chance to get their own fifteen minutes of fame...?

Second place in my hate list after 'lies' is 'advertising'. However they're synonymous in most cases.

Why does the forum software automatically remove non-English characters????? I needed to type the correct spelling for a word in my language and I can't, it's always "leveled" to English. WTF???
