Essentially, what the topic says...
https://www.fcc.gov/consumer-government ... initiative
On March 12, 2025, FCC released a Public Notice seeking comment to identify every rule, regulation, or guidance document that the FCC should eliminate for the purpose of reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens.
How about some deregulation that's good for consumers.
Please allow me to get the ball rolling. Granted I haven't really watched TV in years, but had one of those huge satellites in the back yard in the 90s. Even back then, they were trying to 'protect local stations' by forcing the networks to scramble their feeds so that the were unwatchable. You'll see how ridiculous how 'local' is in FCC parlance a bit later... So, if local network affiliate decided that some sportsball game needed to preempt what the network was broadcasting you were shit-of-luck. It was wonderful when the networks all broadcast in the clear.
Fast-forward to the 2010's, the FCC decided that my Grandmother was 'in a market' for a city that is 74.5 miles away. The FCC forced the station that is 38.7 miles away off her cable TV service. She had watched the closer station's news for years as they'd cover much, much more stories from the town nearest her.
How about knocking all that shit off? Let the networks broadcast in-the-clear if they want to. Let whatever is left of those dish services (DISH TV, etc.) work out deals to carry the feeds if the wish. Most of all, stop allowing bureaucrats to decide what the fuck 'local' means. Old-school TV is fucking dying anyway.
