Maybe if we could do some subtle advertising in the other forums we hangout in to spread the word a little more. I will try but it's good if you guys also do it. Not in a way to get banned or anything but a small subtle promotion perhaps. ;)

You have some excellent points. Although, it's more complicated than that. For a Web site as young as this, we have extremely huge visitor numbers but we still have trouble doing advertising on other Web sites because well, as "PROBLEMCHYLD" said it so nicely, they fear us and dislike us heavily. ([url=http://www.foolsdesign.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=345]As "!" recently prove very loudly that we don't pull any punches and no one is safe![/url] Only the truth matters without the political bullshit.) What we seek is like-minded people and not the "unwashed masses". We are sure that there are more people like for example yourself out there. How to reach them is the hard part, however.

One reason for the "low" member count is that we do not force people to create an account, therefore, we don't get to have all those "wonderful" crap accounts and as you say, a LOT of sites do have fake accounts to boost their own agenda. We are a tight little community here and since we do allow "disagreements" without deleting posts, visitors can feel comfortable that what they read here is true speech, unlike places like Neowin which most of us know they delete the disagreeing posts and have a lot of fake accounts to help put their agenda into a "positive view". When the "unwashed masses" visit them, they think that's what everyone is thinking and get a nice brainwashing out of it.

About the logos, they are random but there is nothing to stop us to add more to the list. If you have any suggestions about which pictures to add as the logo in the random list, please do post them and we will use them. We could for example use only technology related logos for the techtalk.cc section. [b]Actually, I will see if we can do that because your suggestion is a very good one.[/b]

You are correct that this Web site is a little schizophrenic. We have tried to correct it a little by creating a fully separate technical section with its own domain (http://www.TechTalk.cc) which when used, nothing else will be shown but the news and technical stuff. So in case you want to promote that section only, you can do that by using the techtalk.cc domain.

We will soon be in the process of merging the entire database of http://www.ParanormalStories.com in here as well. It will make us even more schizophrenic for a while [b]but fear not![/b] At some point, we want to have a design change because we do agree with your views. The design change should somehow affect different sections, like if you are visiting the technical part, you will see a different look for it.

[i]Please bear in mind that the existence of choice is super important to us.[/i] It means that we will not force-feed the contents of foolsdesign + techtalk + paranormalstories to everyone. We will alter the design in a way that the user can choose which part(s) to see. A little like how we do it in TechTalk.cc right now, which is, if you visit that domain, you will not see the other parts per default [i]because there is no reason to read about UFOs or broken dishwashers unless you wish to do so and we certainly will not force it upon you[/i].

We understand that sometimes, people don't want the drama or even want to see any other junk except only a very specific subject that they wish to dive and immerse themselves into. For example you can't escape all kinds of subjects when you go to ArsTechnica or hell, even Slashdot. We hope that we can avoid becoming like [url=http://www.foolsdesign.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=277]them[/url].

Part of the reason why there aren't more users here, is that people don't even know this exists. Secondly, and this is just a suggestion, the artwork in the upper left corner is not relative to the discussions being had here, in the sense of computers, electronics, operating systems, etc. Yes, we could be talking about stupid cheap dishwashers that break in 2 years, but that's not the current focus, nor is it how things have evolved thus far. Maybe it will at some point...? I like the graphics, but some electronics/computer type graphics should be incorporated into the existing design. There's no banner or anything when you visit this forum, so people that stop by don't pay much attention, and possibly see how few sections there are. Not knowing where in the hell they just landed, or what in the fuck this site is even about, they may skip this site and move on to continuing to pick at their ass. [i]We[/i] all know what this site is when we access it, but the general public doesn't. There should be a clear designation on what this site is, and a hook to get people to spend more than 5 seconds on the page. Remember, we live in a time where people have hissy fits over a stupid smartphone app being discontinued by its developer. People's attention span is very very short, and there are so many distractions with media, games, babies crying, etc., that a site needs a killer feature, just like an application needs for it to gain widespread attention, and/or it's a site that's one of a kind and doesn't exist anywhere else. Now, I have no problem with this being a small group of people wanting to have intelligent conversations. However, since the site owner conveyed his wishes, the aforementioned are my suggestions.

Another reason for the scarcity of membership, is because a great deal of sock puppet accounts are created for writing comments all over every nook and cranny of the internet to make their software or product better than it actually is. Yes, it's wrong and it's deceptive, but the shilling actually convinces certain people that the comments are coming from legitimate users. That would be more difficult here because of the current state of agreement on this forum in terms of views about Windows and other user subjugating software titles. Could there be a shill on here at some point? Sure. And speaking of nookie... :D

People fear this site because most of them are puppets. They don't understand us, nor are they trying to. The second we become like others, there will be no leaders.
