Maybe I need to say something even more distinctly. Overlaying something that big right over the video you're trying to watch on a small display is really the problem.

Heh. I don't disagree. The thing is, they way they've done it work well nearly everywhere in the OS. There's two places where the behavior is different. The damn Files App is the worst. Using an external mouse without a scroll wheel, it's just about unusable. I'll look for the other 'different behaved' spot sometime. I recall its behavior, you sorta have to hold the mouse in the spot for like a second for the scrollbar to appear...It's not nearly as annoying as the files app.

You know, particularly with ChromeOS Flex being promoted as something to use on 'older systems', Gooble needs to really think about this stuff. Much like the damn control in the Media App that I've bitched about. IT TAKES UP TOO MUCH REAL ESTATE ON SMALLER DISPLAYS. Stuff like this and consistency. A friend of mine describes these situations as 'death by a thousand paper cuts'.

I do really have an appreciation of Flex. I wouldn't bother commenting otherwise.

If anyone from Gooble happens to read this shit, you need someone to go over all the various places where scrollbar are and/or could be used a check for fucking consistency.

I guess I should explain why. It's the freaking Files App. If you load a directory with enough files that you need to scroll to see all of them or more of them after the scrollbar fades or autohides, getting the scrollbar on the right side of the thing to reappear is a major fucking pain in the ass. Sure, using a mouse with a scroll wheel works and there's some funky-add gesture you can do with a trackpad, but if you don't have a scroll wheel on your mouse and don't want to deal with funky ass gestures, the damn scrollbars not disappearing to begin with help a fuck ton. :lolno:

You know, for anything good that I can say about this, I can find other shit that *should be* embarrassingly bad. :lolno:

Shocked again by how decent ChromeOS Flex is. Had to travel recently for work, grabbed and old laptop, installed Flex, and went. It connected to the WiFi at both the hotel and where I was at for work. We (those of us that traveled) were given a lot of PDFs and had to access email, all went fine. I got home and had to scan a bunch of receipts, was dreading dragging the ol' Windows PC out and hooking it all up. That little voice said hook the scanner/printer combo up to the laptop. Well it instantly recognized the printer and I was just about to give up on scanning when I looked at the combo unit, and realized that I had to set it to scan mode (on the combo unit itself, had not used it in a long time). Put it in scan mode and voila, it worked. Hell, even the scanner interface in ChromeOS Flex isn't bad. I guess I was more surprised that it recognized the printer/scanner that I have, it's kinda old, 2013 model.

Once again, I got to give Google some credit.

I'm aware that I can now run Linux apps in this thing. I guess in the non-Flex, a.k.a real ChromeOS, you can also run Android apps. Regarding the Linux applications, I'm not so in love with the ChromeOS Flex's UI that I think that it's an oh-so-wonderful replacement for insert-Linux-Desktop-Environment here. In other words, I'd rather run a Linux Distro at that point. In fact, I do most of the time. Looked at from a few other angles...It's something else to go wrong, it's another layer that gives rise to potential security issues. Blah, blah, blah. If I'm gonna use this damn thing, I'd prefer to stick with what it comes with and what I can do in-browser.

While I'm likely in a minority regarding my thoughts/way of using ChromeOS Flex, I hope Google's Devs think along these lines too. I believe thinking that way would make the OS better all around for all users.
