I see someone using Windows 8 fixed a "slow rendering" issue using files from the package on a game called Divine Divinity:

WineD3D builds for Windows

Steven W, 2014-04-13 22:44 »

Curious if anyone's played with this particularly on 9x?

http://www.nongnu.org/wined3d/

It can implement versions of Direct3D for Windows versions that Microsoft doesn't want to support (e.g. D3D10 on XP/2000/9x).

I see someone filed a bug at Wine:

http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=15338

Their reply was the obvious:

Third party apps are not supported here. Ask for help from whoever created those packages...

I note that the bug mentions DxDiag, which, of course, isn't part of that package. Perhaps it would be best not to have DirectX installed on the test machine? I don't know.
