The "Unofficial Service Pack" you installed (I saw you previous post about it) is not something I would recommend to anyone. While it is a well-intentioned project, and I appreciate anyone's dedication to building something for Windows 9x these days, the current author has tried to include too many things and too many "thrown-together" items from other operating systems that are unstable when mixed. Version 3.0 Beta 4 is the last version by the previous author, and is considered "stable," but even it still makes changes I would not recommend.

You see this shit. Once again he or she, or whatever the fuck it is, should shut the hell up. Just because that punk don't use it, doesn't mean to keep stressing. People must think I'm not on other forums. Every time anything is mention about SP, that bitch always coming with that, I don't recommend it. Fuck you LoneCrusader. Kiss my ass you punk bitch.

Funny how he doesn't come in here and bitch about your SP. *lol* What an idiot. I bet he knows if he comes here, we can call him names and tell him to SHUT THE FUCK UP without being banned like other places. Hahaha

Hi PC,

have you ever heard of this Lady: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_von_Ebner-Eschenbach. She was Austrian, in fact (I don't know) probably Czech and Moravian and she once said:

"Urteile kann man widerlegen, niemals Vorurteile". = "You can refute judgements, NEVER pre-judgements" ;-) .

Thanks for your work

Roger

You forgot to update the first post with the proper release date for 3.28. Can you change the 3.x in the title to 3.28.
Many people don't realize the pack has been updated and assume we haven't moved forward. I figure since you already update the first post with the new update, then it shouldn't be a problem to change the version while already in there. ::thumbup::

PROBLEMCHYLD, can you tell me exactly what you need with those batch files and the exact paths/names of the files you need extracted/run, along with any commandline parameters? I'm trying to build some AHK scripts and I want them to be flexible enough while easy to modify when needed.

Another thing: I tested one of the scripts, that is check if a file exists and if so extract a file from a cabinet.
My system has the XP version (5.1.2600.0) of extract.exe and the script works correctly. However, when I put the original extract.exe from 98SE CD in script's folder, the script used that version and returned an error "Cannot open SP3.cab".

I've compared the commandline parameters between the two versions and they look the same. But it turns out the old version cannot handle long paths and paths with spaces, besides being extremely slow. This means, for a sure and consistent result you'd have to have the XP version of extract.exe at hand, either already installed on the system or in the same folder where the script resides. I'm still working on this; in the mean time I'm waiting for the details.

The first batch will extract U98SESP3.CHM from SP3.CAB and then launch it in full screen. After one has read all the instructions and closes it, then it will launch the main .EXE which is INFEX.EXE. This is what gives us the option screen to choose our updates.

The second batch file will do a search for SMCIRDA.SYS which should be located in %WINDIR%SYSTEM directory. If the file is found, it then should extract an updated version of SMCIRDA.SYS from the %WINDIR%SYSTEMPRECOPYSP3.CAB and should reside in %WINDIR%SYSTEMPRECOPY directory.

1. Where should the CHM be extracted to (exact path)?
2. What is the exact path for the INFEX.EXE that is to be run after closing the Help file?

This information needs to be edited in scr1.ahk (see the readme). Please test and report back.

I agree, it is someone more complicated than a batch, and I really don't understand what I'm doing either. Do this app has to be installed on all users systems before it would work?
