Thanks for the heads up. I don't use Office on Win98, only Word 97. So this doesn't apply to users who doesn't use Office. I will note it. Also I don't use Direct X 7 but Direct X 9c. Its also optional so it shouldn't be any problems. I never had the problems above. I will list them in the Bug and Fixes section in the .CHM file.Steven W wrote:PROBLEMCHYLD, there were some problems with MS regclean that you should be aware of:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299958
It also causes some issues with DirectX7:

I had the issue where I'd lose my controller, it was an easy fix, but I dumped RegClean years ago.
Hello there, my first post on this forum, mainly due this wonderful service pack :).
I have a computer from 2001 and I thought I give him some life. After a few days spent on it (damaged cd drive, and bios doesn't support usb drives) I managed to install Windows XP on it, but after connecting it with the internet, the computer was lagging and I could barely work on it.
So I decided to give a shot to the good old Win 98. I wanted to install also one of those unofficial service packs, I knew there was one (non-english) around. I dig around and found this, still updated one :).
I've had some problems with the installation. I chose all available options in the installer and it started the update process, but after few minutes it returned a memory allocating error. Then another one. And another. I rebooted my PC and the Win 98 was broken, could not boot, because of some errors listed on "the black screen".
One more try - format, clean install, service pack. This time I decided to not install everything at the same time and installed just some stuff, reboot, again install until I finally gone through it (with no errors).
So far I haven't used my NEW windows much, but I already liked USB storage and NTFS drives support.
If I can suggest anything - maybe there should be more tools for everyday use included? A pdf reader, video player etc? And I'm not sure if the SP includes a fix for "It is safe to turn off the computer"? Before the last format I had to edit something in regedit to stop this from appearing and now it is back :(.
Keep up the good work!

A note, it would be great if you could post which components you did install and which ones you didn't so in case someone else gets this problem in the future, they will know which components to filter out.

About your other suggestions, those will be for PROBLEMCHYLD. I'm just a user.

Thank you and welcome!
Well... I installed all components. The errors appeared when I tried to install all at once and did not when I installed a few of them, reboot, and so on until I got all of them. Probably something wrong with the installer not releasing memory.

This is the results when users don't follow instructions. I'm not going to even bother updating the .CHM file because you guys are NOT reading it anyways. BTW, there is nothing wrong with the installer. I have been using the same method for 3 yrs now. It is you guys not following the noted guide.MURZYN wrote:I've had some problems with the installation. Or maybe the guide is the problem

Instead of bashing me, wouldn't it be easier to say what did I miss? I can assure you I read all informations on your website and also the help file which was displayed just before the installation.

Dude, you are full of shit. First it was the installer, now its the guide. Get the fuck out of here. If you read the guide/instructions like you say have (fucking liar) then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Read the fucking manual/instructions Mr. dumbass. I really don't care if your problem get fixed or not. All my computers work. I don't have to format or reinstall because I follow instructions. Learn to do the same.MURZYN wrote:Or maybe the guide is the problem![]()
