It occurred to me that you may also need to turn on networking in Parallels.

I don't know how old this stuff is (what version of Parallels) but:

http://www.4j.lane.edu/files/cis/4j_cis ... _guide.pdf
Connecting a Network Adapter

If a network adapter is enabled in your virtual machine configuration, you can
connect/disconnect it while running the guest OS.

Note: If the network adapter is disabled, shut down the guest OS first, then enable the network
adapter in the Configuration Editor (select the Enabled check box in the Network Adapter
Options (page 182) tab) and power on the virtual machine.

To connect or disconnect the network adapter, do one of the following:
Choose Network from the Devices menu, then select the Connect or Disconnect command,.

Right-click the network adapter icon on the status bar (page 47) to display the shortcut
menu and choose appropriate command.
It's also possible that something needs to be done in the Host OS.

This is really old:

I'd try just enabling it in Parallels first.

Cool, glad you got that far. There is a network driver in the file linked in the page you mentioned in your first post:

https://kb.parallels.com/Attachments/kc ... -other.iso

Obviously you already know how to mount the ISO.

I've extracted it with 7-zip and the driver is in this folder:

\prl-tools-other\Drivers\Network\RTL8029\WIN98

Hopefully specifying that folder when attempting to update the driver works?!
Steven,

Unfortunately this one doesn't work

I note there's and exclamation point on the network card in the device manager, you should be able to get some info as to the problem... Is the driver correct? Is it disabled? IRQ conflict...

https://download.parallels.com/desktop/ ... /33014.htm

In the configuration for Parallels, can you select another card to emulate?

I'm kinda flying blind here without really knowing Parallels. Hopefully, we can figure something out.

I've been digging, I found a thread in the Parallels forum for a really old version advising people to essentially do a setup using APM. Well, further digging indicates that ACPI was added in version 3.

I'm kinda thinking you may need to run the Win98 SE setup with 'setup /p j'

These kinda issues ***could*** be related.

Good luck!

Steven,

Thanks a lot for all help!
I've made a small progress, there was really a IRQ conflict.

I had to remove the printer port, go on the network car troubleshooter and then it worked!
The drivers are the ones from the beginning, from Parallels Tools.
It is a bit annoying now that every time I restart the printer port is back and I have to remove and troubleshoot everything again. But works!

Now must be up to configuring the right addresses! I will follow your last posts later today and give an update!

Nice dude! Looking at the Parallels forums, it looks as though most people just gave up. As for me I pointed you in all sorts of directions, you found the right one.

Of course, saying the "right" one might be premature at this point.

While you're at this point, I'll toss a bit more shit out there:

As for the setup /p j stuff above, look and see if you currently have any ACPI stuff listed in the Device Manager, if it's there - the setup stuff is probably a waste of time, if it's not, then it may be worth exploring.

Years ago (I sure the MSFN thread is still there), I installed 98SE on an eMachines W3629. While setting up 98SE, I ran into some troubles getting all the hardware to work. Well, after searching and searching on Google, I finally came across this site (URL may be different than it was back then):

http://www.windows98.xf.cz/

A dude going by Rayer (maybe XRayer) had put together a package of drivers (in some cases it only updates the name in the Device Manager). It's the intelinf.zip file. I used it and it helped get me going, but I later found that I could use Intel's actual INF installer for Win 2K/XP to update those devices. I had to extract it using 7-zip, go in to the Device Manage and manually point it to the folder.

Here's an older version of that that still mentions Win2K (thinking an older version might be better, 98SE after all):
infinst_autol.exe
(1.08 MiB) Downloaded 1714 times
Here's the latest non-beta, official last version of 7-zip for 98SE:

https://www.7-zip.org/a/7z920.exe

Regarding that package from Rayer... As mentioned at his site and if you dig up that old thread where I was setting up the w3629, LoneCrusader picked up the package and updated it further.

at Rayer's site, it's the intel_inf_94.zip file, you could check MSFN to see if it's been updated further...

For now, my advice, for what it's worth:

I'd install 7-zip, extract the files from the exe I've attached and see if you can update driver for any 'Unknown Devices'. I'd then try to update pretty much everything in the Device Manager (EXCEPT USB stuff) by choosing update drivers and pointing to that folder.

If you can get more stuff up and going, I might do a clean install run the exe I gave you in the earlier post, install the drivers for everything except the network card, update drivers using the directions above (after extracting), rebooting when needed, then install the network card driver. Then if needed/wanted check LoneCrusader's packages.

This is just kinda a general suggestion, I obviously don't know what specific issues you may encounter.

So... good and bad news!
In the end I can't access Mac folders, I've tried everything. The Windows 10 uses a program that is part of Parallels Tools, called Shared Folders. But this doesn't exit for the Win98 and there seems to be no way to see the Mac from inside Win98.
In the moment I have everything working: video, sound, network card (the LPT1 port stopped appearing, I think it gave up), and even the internet is working in the Win98!

Thanks a lot for all help, Steven! Wouldn't have made without you!
I tried to do what you've said, I still have a few unidentified hardwire but was not able to install anything more using those drivers.
Anyway, it works!

Best regards,

To the tinkerer go the spoils...

Sounds like you have it working well enough to play some games on and then some. If you figure something out for transferring/sharing files (other than making ISOs), let us know.
