Never mind. Better not play with fire and host them in here. You never know what those sons of bitches would do with their fleet of lawyers.

I am not going to do it yet, but part of me is wondering if simply replacing the error messages with English (or whatever language you want/need) could be done with a hex editor.

I think it's possible, as long as you don't touch and change the size of the message string.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too, could they be changed, dropped in the right place and be exactly the same size. Might be hard to do.

That's gotta be real hardware, right RFMaster?

I wanted to say It works with...

Anyway, here's how to get rid of this "enable.vxd" message:

Extract "enable.vxd" from WIN98_54.CAB (WIN98_48.CAB if you use 98FE ) to C:WindowsSystemVMM32

Yes, hardware is real, but this is installed in Virtual Box.

Cool beans, the screenshot showed what you meant 8-)

You can also get rid of the error by removing all accessibility options in Add/Remove programs. Your method is probably better ::clap::

Thank 98 Guy for starting this thread! ::clap:: ::clap:: ::clap:: :D

Hey, glad I could help, and glad that techtalk posted the german site. But the real thanks goes to Dencorso - it was his censorship of the information on MSFN that raised my interest and so I brought it here to a more open and relaxed forum. I wonder if he's trying to help Rlowe sell more copies of his ram patch and doesn't want anyone else to know about this 4-year-old German patch.

So I tried these VMM32/VMM files (and enable.vxd) on my system - and they seem to work. My system is dedicated win-98se, with KernelEx, 512 mb ram, i865 chipset, P4-2.5 ghz CPU and several SATA drives (over 1 tb). I brought the system ram up to 1 gb and then 2 gb, and didn't modify anything else (no changes to vcache or any .ini settings). My system properties now shows 2046 mb ram.

I'm using opera 12.02 to post this. One strange thing I notice is that another browser I sometimes use (PaleMoon 3.6.32) is no longer showing any graphic files when it renders web-pages. Instead it shows the file name. Firefox 2 and Navigator 9 (and ie6) all seem to work fine.

About these files - I scanned them at VirusTotal and they had been scanned only 1 time before - on January 24 / 2010. No virus or trojan detection at the time, and my re-scan today also shows no sign of malware. So the .zip file (or the individual .vxd files) had been scanned at the same time 4 years ago. How could they have not been noticed by the win-98 enthusiast community for so long?

Does ProblemChyld know the answer? I hope he tells some of the folks over at MSFN about this thread (by Private Message at least) so they will all benefit.

I will post all this info on the win-98 usenet newsgroups and also point to this thread.
