EMPTORXC,

Thank you for reporting this but it's not an error.

We have an anti hotlinking module installed on the servers. You cannot do a hotlink/download without first being on our pages. This is to prevent leeching because the bandwidth we burn each day is pretty huge and we do not want to offer free lunch for third party sites.

So basically, if you use the download link from any other Web site, it won't work. You have to be on "techtalk.cc" and the official forum post first and then click the link.

Almost 10GB per day and up up up it goes for each month. :problem: As long as they visit our pages, it is no problem.

Thank you for all the hard work! :)

I have an old IBM T21 here. 1 GHZ, 512MB RAM max. Windows XP doesn't run very well on it. I also wanted a native DOS gaming machine with the ability to do some more things.

I used the german version of Windows 98 SE, although it is not recommended. I installed the main updates and some of the additional ones (ASPI, Logos, Outlook Express, Word 97, Paint Filters etc.)

Apart from removing the default Active Desktop of Windows 98 and switching some menus to English, everything runs very smoothly.

I don't really think the files are detrimental to the system, I think is more of a language thing. Thank you for your feedback. I hope you enjoy the forum as well as the SP.

Post 55 ... Hmm-m-m, thats odd.

I hope this is the right place for these questions:

After Clean Install, (Win98SE Reload, U98SESP3x Update and Tweaking):
Of course I loaded using the standard Win98SE CD, copies of my old drivers and then U98SESP3x. I
found I have both U98SESP3x ver3.33 AND ver 3.34 so I'm not sure which I used.

In Windows Explorer, Deleting a "HTML" file requires two Delete actions. One for the ".HTM" and another for the "_files". I thought that before, this Clean Install, only one deletion was used to get both. Did I think wrong?

**** Folder View Settings Not Saved *****
Also in Windows Explorer, setting the "Folders Options" to "Remember each folders settings" does not save the settings for the Control Panel Folder.

I used the google/techtalk search address for these two problems but nothing came up, except that MicroSoft has the (*** Folder View Settings Not Saved ***) problem now in windows 7. (Something about using Libraries).

Overall, I am thrilled with this mastered work, of enormously, easy to use U98SESP3x. These are the first hitches I have noticed compared to my previous 2004 loading with all Internet updates. But I don't have internet for this machine any more either.

Dear "Walt43",

Help and support ( techtalk.cc ) in The lounge is NOT the right place.

This » Unofficial Windows 98 Second Edition Service Pack 3.36
...is the right place to ask questions about UW98SESP.

I have moved your question to the correct place, however. :relaxed:

One way to figure this out is to go to Page 1 of this thread you are reading now,
see the listing for the htasoft download webpage and go to it.
Then scroll down that htasoft webpage to see the listing of changes - it's a
changelog for the versions of the Service Pack.
Version 3.34 has changes which should make it very easy to deduce whether it
is 3.33 or 3.34 that has been applied to your Operating System.

You should be using 3.36 instead of the older versions.

Yes, 3.36 is the current version. The guy worked hard on it. You better use it! :relaxed:
