I don't see why this would be an issue, especially since they probably throw a little traffic this way with their link here. As you can see by the number of downloads the Service Pack is a fairly popular download there :D

We at foolsdesign.org certainly do not mind linking to other forums or whatnot but we may not add anything to this thread unless it is approved by PROBLEMCHYLD. If he is OK with it and tell us to add it, then we will add it. :relaxed:

A favor for a favor ::clap:: Major Geeks is pretty cool and will accept them with open arms. I appreciate all the support. We can list them as 3rd mirror.

I am trying to add Direct X 9c (core files only which is about 17mb) with all the official and unofficial updates.

I have very fond memories of W98 SE.

I still have a copy laying around.

It was fun to diddle with, but I didn't know shit about hacking.

All I did was monkey around a bit in the C:WindowsWeb folder to change folder backgrounds and minor harmless crap.

Does this update do anything to the MBR? I have a retro box that uses a PCI SATA controller connected to an SSD. I didn't have a problem with spindle drives, but as soon as I install this on my SSD with Windows 98SE it blows up, killing/corrupting the MBR.

Welcome to Fool's Design.

I'm sorry for your troubles, and no the SP does NOTHING to the MBR. It only updates files that are already presents on the system and give users many options to choose from. Hope you get it working. I have a new update coming soon, that will launch the CHM listed with ALL instructions. I hope users read them.

Interesting Artex, perhaps you could tell us the motherboard, the
maker/model of the PCI SATA controller, and the maker/model of the SSD
if you ever visit again.

I seem to have hit some problem.

I updated to 3.30 and upon restart I was greeted with EXPLORER.EXE performing a stack fault in KERNEL32.DLL, on every launch of it.
In the end I managed to fix it by copying over the SYSTEM folder from a backup I had made in Safe Mode...

Not sure what happened or why, it never did with 3.29 or earlier versions.

Registry I did not copy over, or any of the config files so the problem originates from something that got updated in the SYSTEM folder.
