I have a question,

why is the ntoskrnl and hal of XP included with this update pack? does this mean we can use drivers intended for XP on 98SE? or is there another reason?
For dual booting when you need to access a NTFS drive.

Hi. First of all - THANKS for that big project. Using retro computer is much easier and more nicely with it. It's not for daily use. Just to deal with some old games and programs i can't run on windows 7/10.
If i have installed windows 98 se in polish can i install 98 SE SP2 3.57 [119.29 MB, English] instead of 98 SE SP2 2.1b Stable [20.01 MB, Polish]?
2.1b works fine. Windows install itself drivers to my modern usb keyboard, mouse, flashdrive. It didn't recognize xinput controller.
3.57 is much more up to date (i saw it has "Added Xbox 360 Controller Drivers"). Will this patch change language in my all windows or change it in "few places"?

I haven't updated SP3 in over 2 years. I was looking at some of rloew patches and can really only use a couple. Some of his patches are already included in U98SESP3. So far, I only see 2 possible inclusions WDMEX and Shell32. The thing with shell32 is we will lose all the functions and security patches from mdgx anonymous patches by replacing it with rloew patch. Rloew only use vanilla files to patch. Is the trade off worth it? Another solution is since the source code is available some one create a patch for the shell32 already included in sp3 and we can have the best of both worlds.

I had to remind myself of what WDMEX was, Google led me here:

http://lonecrusader.x10host.com/rloew/wdmex.html

That left me laughing, do you remember when I got that UAA Bus Driver on my 98 system? It was already compatible, *you* verified there were no missing functions.

https://msfn.org/board/topic/158239-ins ... nt=1011943

Nothing practical came of it, the sound card still didn't work.

Is there any documented evidence of WDMEX working for *anything*?

Even before or if I add WDMEX, I need a piece of hardware to test. There isn't too much more to be done unless one uses KEX or patches system files such as kernel and shell32 etc... This will eventually come to an end. Not much has been reported in the 2 yr break. Safe to say thing are pretty damn solid.

Nice! Taking a sigh of relief that you didn't include that rloew stuff. Just gonna state my opinion:

WDMEX was considered Beta by rloew -- look at the version number. Losing security patches ain't worth it.

I installed Win98 SE SP3 in a VM and the shit is painfully slow. I really don't have the patience for VMs. It constantly crashes on shutdown, I have to a scan disk and fix it every reboot. Once its up and running its pretty stable. All the drivers work like vbemp9x, rtl8139. No sound, no wireless, no bluetooth.
