@123andrew,

Yeah... but hm, I use https://getadblock.com, what do you think of that? Doesn't Adblock Plus take money from some corporations to whitelist them? I have used Adblock Plus too though, I suppose both work pretty good.

RequestPolicy continued... https://requestpolicycontinued.github.io/ ...is also very good. It kills off anything which isn't from the domain you visit. Very very very nice.

Checkout uBlock Origin. It's better than ABP in pretty much every regard; so much so, I don't know why people are still using ABP other than that they don't know a better alternative exists. It's better on CPU and RAM as you can see below. Avoid "uBlock", and make sure you download "ublock Origin". There was a developer rift a while back, and eventually the codebase was forked and two different versions were formed. In all the research I've done ublock Origin is the better version between the two forks.

"Chris Aloud [current owner of uBlock] is under fire on Reddit due to several actions in recent past:

  • In a Wikipedia edit for uBlock, Chris removed all credits to Raymond [Hill, original author and owner of uBlock Origin] and added his name without any mention of the original author’s contribution.
  • Chris pledged a donation with overblown details on expenses like $25 per week for web hosting.
  • The activities of Chris since he took over the project are more business and advertisement oriented than development driven."
citation: http://tuxdiary.com/2015/06/14/ublock-origin/

  • gorhill [Raymond Hill] got tired of dozens of "my facebook isnt working plz help" issues.
  • he handed the repository to chrismatic [Chris Aljioudi] while maintaining control of the extension in the Chrome webstore (by forking chrismatic's version back to himself).
  • chrismatic promptly added donate buttons and a "made with love by Chris" note.
  • gorhill took exception to this and asked chrismatic to change the name so people didn't confuse uBlock (the original, now called uBlock Origin) and uBlock (chrismatic's version).
  • Google took down gorhill's extension. Apparently this was because of the naming issue (since technically chrismatic has control of the repo).
  • gorhill renamed and rebranded his version of ublock to uBlock Origin.

"uBlock Origin is NOT an "ad blocker": it is a wide-spectrum blocker -- which happens to be able to function as a mere "ad blocker". The default behavior of uBlock Origin when newly installed is to block ads, trackers and malware sites -- through EasyList, EasyPrivacy, Peter Lowe’s ad/tracking/malware servers, various lists of malware sites, and uBlock Origin's own filter lists."

I feel kinda silly replying to this over three years after the fact, but this is actually very good. I recently installed Seamonkey 2.49.5 on my XP system and while I could get AdBlock Plus to install (older version) it was extremely difficult to configure via the UI. So, after some research installed uBlock Origin. All I can say is, nice!

I don't know. I never thought it's silly replying to a very old thread. Many forums even lock old threads, completely moronic. So many times, just a few words from someone randomly adding to an old thread helped me immensely get out of some jam. :relaxed: Sad part is, most of the time, they never even get a thank you because forums are so messed up out there, one can't just reply without registering an account.

All true, I can easily see where someone might want a file and the download link is no longer unavailable, might have questions about something someone did, clarification, something to add.... the list could go on and on.

We've spoken about what the internet in general is becoming. I must say, it's nice to have the freedom to disagree, not necessarily go along with the groupthink, to pepper my comments with a few expletives when the mood strikes and not to pretend that everything is smiley-happy-wonderful when it's not and to be around people who are adult enough to handle such things.

So take that '!', ya dumbfuck.

Just kidding, love ya dude! No Homo!

Love ya too but only in homo way! Hahaha... just kidding. (Of course, I don't mean that anything is wrong with being homo/trans etc., we are all human. :relaxed:)

...but yeah, Internet died and died hard. :silent:
