It's been a while since I've really needed to make a PDF. I used to always install PDFCreator:

DFCreator/ (I'll have to dig, I still use an old version on XP, I know 1.2.3 works in 98) Basically, just go to print (CTRL+P) your document and make sure it's using PDFCreator as the printer. With OpenOffice Writer, made good PDFs. Using tables and making the borders white produced some nice looking documents.

Regarding PDFCreator: I think the more-modern iterations suck.

Eh, it looks as though they removed the installers for the older version from sourceforge:

I think 1.62 is the newest I use.

I've never tried to use ghostscript's 'printer', will have to sometime.

The reason I like a 'printer' is that you can use it from any program that prints.
