Microsoft is dead, at least Windows. They just don't know it yet.

Here's hoping Whitman is smart enough to also understand that the desire for "general purpose computers" isn't dead. Chome OS is not designed to meet that need, although it certainly does fill a niche. I'd really like to see these hardware manufacturers to start looking at various Linux distros seriously. Seriously working with the big-two, Ubuntu and Redhat would be a great start. A little teamwork in the area of drivers could go a long way. I realize that the business culture of the past made it difficult to see, but opening your specs and drivers is the future. Manufacturers could easily flourish into the future by simply patenting the hardware to no end.
As for getting the business world off of Office, Sun demonstrated the right idea several years ago by opening OpenOffice.org's/StarOffice's file formats. I'm not saying that the Open Document Format is the right way to go, nor am I saying it's not. I'm saying if the big players (other than MS) could agree on an open, XML-based file format and start insisting that everyone who deals with them use it, that would be the beginning of the end of Office. Here's hoping that some big wigs at these powerhouses start seeing the writing on the wall. Some of us have been waiting for years.

Google has been updating its developer version of the Chrome browser to run what's essentially Chrome OS within Windows 8's "Metro" mode.
Ah yeah, I saw it. It's freaking hilarious. *lol* Google is eating Microsoft alive from the inside. Not that I like Google but I find it very fun to watch this whole thing. Great strategy.
Frankly, after having used my new "Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini" a couple of weeks now, I don't see the need for Windows that much for the average user. This thing, of course, after rooting it because I never accept a personal computing device without having administrator rights on it which basically means if I don't have those right, the device isn't really mine and I am borrowing it. Fully unacceptable for me. ...so anyway, this thing is an excellent little personal computing device.
I removed all the OEM crapware from Samsung. With 32GB+8GB(4GB internal free) storage I got my banking, contacts, phone/sms, email, browsing, music, family tracking (GPS), flashlight, remote desktop (all my other PCs+servers), camera (picture+video, not high quality but good enough for me), vpn into my work PC which is a virtual PC, alarm, calendar... well, you get the idea. All of this and it fits nicely in my pocket!
It is also possible to connect it to a HDMI and get a fullscreen experience out of it + keyboard and mouse... and last but not least, the entire device is fully encrypted.
The average user doesn't need a desktop PC anymore. Well, sure, I can never replace FireFox on desktop because for some sinister reason, the mobile version of FireFox is very limited but aside from that which doesn't really affect the regular user and gaming, desktop PC is pretty much dead to the average user.
Now, I am a content creator so I can never fully get rid of my Windows PC (except for virtualizing it), specially Visual Studio and MSSQL, they are both excellent products but not for average users, so yeah, Microsoft is indeed cooked and done. Stick a fork in it.
Bear in mind that now Valve is coming out with the SteamOS so I will most likely get a Steam Machine for my gaming needs.
Funny thing is, all of this started by Microsoft's own doing. Releasing those turds Windows Phone and Windows 8. After seeing how they didn't really understand the situation by releasing Windows 8.1, I realized they are truely done in the "consumer" section.
As for creating games, they can fuck off too. The way they killed off Silverlight and XNA, I will only use Unity to create games. Stuff created in Unity works on Android, Windows, iOS, OSX.
The only place Microsoft has a strong foot is in the enterprise section but I'm sure, given enough time, they will fuck that up as well.

So I heard that Microsoft launches Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop apps for Mac, iOS and Android which can be found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... dc.android ...I installed it and tried it for about 5 minutes.
You know, truly, I mean truly, the fools at Microsoft are insane. If you compare the application that Microsoft released to Remote Desktop Client by Xtralogic, Inc., you too, will know for sure that they are completely and utterly insane.
I don't even know how a giant software house like Microsoft is not ashamed of releasing something like that! This thing lacks ALL kinds of options and I mean ALL kinds of options! You cannot even choose display resolution!!! Compare that crap to the application made by Xtralogic, where you have a ton of options.
All these "news" articles praising this so called "application" are either paid off by Microsoft or they too, are insane.
It is not that Microsoft will be irrelevant in a few years... no no no... Microsoft IS irrelevant RIGHT NOW. It's done. They are finished in the consumer market. I'm sure of it because I am now certain that they are INSANE. Truly, they are insane.
The only thing left is the enterprise section. Windows Server, MS SQL, Visual Studio and a few others. Time will tell if they will manage to destroy their enterprise business as well or not. My guess is that they will become just like IBM in the enterprise, slowly going the way of dodo.
Oh, and if you thought that Windows 8 was an insult... just wait til' you see Windows 8.1! *lol*
Ps. I am not calling them insane to insult them. I truly believe that they are indeed, insane.
