This post is a hat-tip to a dear friend now deceased who first discovered it over in Bavaria while stationed in West Germany. When he got back he dragged me all over trying to find it. They were importing here but only in a few places, but after like 10 years of us pestering them all it became pretty common in our stores. Strong beer. Over $2 a bottle these days.

Same strength as above at about 15 proof and killer double bock taste. Not as common as Paulaners around here but you can't miss it when you see it because of the little goat hanging on the bottle. I think its like $3 each and comes in a 4-pack.

And this stuff will knock you on your ass. Strongest beer in the world ( not counting small microbreweries ) at 28 proof. In fact, I was walking around the Guinness Records Museum in Las Vegas and saw two cool things. First, was the display for loudest concert where they documented an Iron Maiden gig at Donington (!). Then we were checking out the booze section and they have this Samichlaus as strongest beer. At one party we made the mistake of packing a cooler full of these ( expensive! ) and people were guzzling them and the whole day was ruined because no-one could do anything except sit. It tastes more like Cognac than beer. I like to get one of each, Paulaner Salvator, Celebrator, and Sami and that is a decent buzz. But that runs about $10 for all three so it might be more economical to just grab a bottle of whiskey.

Whooha... you have now given me a new mission, to find and taste these!!! ::clap:: ...and as soon I get my new camera ( Fujifilm X100S ), I will post some shots of my drinks and wines. Tasting new wines is a small favorite doing of mine. Hm, X100S is so damn expensive that I have to wait at least a month and see if I can save up for it. :D My bank account is currently running on fumes.

Well guys, if you ever happen to visit Romania and I'm talking about the western part of it called "Ardeal", ask for "palinca" and get ready to catch fire. ;) Beer is just piss compared to that. 8-)

I just received a bottle of palinca form a friend. It turns out they do bottle it and maybe they also export. Contact data can be seen on the label.

I haven't opened the bottle yet, saving it for New Year's. What I can say is this one is made of apple, according to the label. My favorite is made of plum. Dunno if they bottle that sort too.

There may also be other producers in that area - I never checked.
