In my opinion, anyone who uses SourceForge (and the like) is a fool and/or a moron. Doesn't matter if they use such places for hosting or downloading. Unless you have some kind of direct contact and trust in the owner(s) of such place, for example techtalk.cc. I'm here, we are here. No invisible corporation behind things.

Remember shareware.com until CNET gobbled it up?

SourceForge, the code repository site owned by Slashdot Media, has apparently seized control of the account hosting GIMP for Windows on the service, according to e-mails and discussions amongst members of the GIMP community-locking out GIMP's lead Windows developer. And now anyone downloading the Windows version of the open source image editing tool from SourceForge gets the software wrapped in an installer replete with advertisements.

I heard too. What an absolute shame. They've knuckled under to what Frank Herbert called the souk mentality.
