Oh dear God, that good old song!

Imagine that, I hated Windows 95 when it came out. I was so into DOS 6.22. ...Windows has gotten to bad these days, I miss Windows 95 and I think it was a great OS compared to the new Windows. May we live in interesting times I suppose.

It's a really, really astonishing offer from Microsoft. (yeah, really.)

Probably Steve Ballmer who wrote that one!

I was really impressed the first time that I saw Windows 95. I never really used Windows 3.1 enough to understand it and of course, most people didn't really have a machine to show off what it was capable of. So, kind of like you, I went straight from DOS to Windows 95.

The first time that I saw it a friend had brought a laptop home from work. So I just started poking around. I recall him chuckling when I said "Oh! The folders are the directories and subdirectories." I kept poking a played with Desktop themes and finally figured out how to match the sounds with events/actions. I had a nearly perfect Beavis and Butthead theme set up. My friend informed me he got some odd looks at work the following day when he'd maximize a window and you'd hear Beavis declare "Boi-oi-oi-oi-ing". A few day later he got a dial-up and I got online for the first time. It wasn't long after that I bought a used computer at a flea market that hand Windows 95 and a modem already installed. That machine was slow, but I was so glad to have it. Those were the days!

Yeah, I had sold my ATARI STFM 520 and bought a second hand 486 IBM with an SX-25 CPU, I think it had 1 or maybe 2MB RAM. I had Windows 3.1 on it but never used. Always lived in DOS and coded stuff in Borland (Turbo) Pascal. Then came Windows 95... I still remember my first nights on IRC (I used mIRC). Those were the days, indeed!

I have to admit, I am so sick of all this "always online" crap these days, it isn't even funny anymore. I have killed all kinds of Windows Update and all kinds of "phone home" stuff now in my new Windows 10 virtual PC (my main machine is a virtual PC). The only thing that is allowed to go online is now FireFox.

Hopefully, they won't fuck it up too much. Mozilla sets plan to dump Firefox add-ons, move to Chrome-like extensions. It seems that it will even break Pale Moon's add-ons. (Looking at you TmEE... hehe )

We'll see what the future will bring I suppose. Things look really dark, about both operating systems and browsers in general. From user interface to spyware bullshit all over the place.

It's like, all the developers have gone insane.

You got me thinking, my first computer was a Tandy Color Computer 3. I was all fancy and had the cassette player to save and load programs with.

The book Getting Started with Extended Color Basic was really quite useful.

I remember the other one was just sort of an intro to the damn thing.

I had hours of fun with that. I eventually inherited a Tandy 1000 (I don't recall the exact model) from a crazy relative. For the time that was an awesome machine. It had DeskMate software and could play music and record and play audio and was one of the models with a hard drive. Here's a video demonstrating a similar, if not the same, machine:

I think my relative had lost the mouse that came with the machine and I was a bit annoying with that, until I discovered that a Color Computer's joystick would serve that purpose. That machine was hours of entertainment too.

YES! Those ones, I never had one but Tandy, I used it I think on some places, unsure where, maybe my uncle's work place or something like that. Those were good machines! What the hell went wrong with computers, I wonder. We all had such dreams. Now, they all turned into shit. Machines to spy on everyone in their homes and track them to sell stuff. Fighting the machines to just stop the damn telemetry. So sad.

*writes down the Win95 birthday*

I had lot of fun with 95 but my time with it was short, 98SE happened very quickly after.

(I don't use any addons with PaleMoon, besides Tabmix to get tabs on bottom (and for ads and schit there's the hosts file which is far more effective) and since updates are disabled and incapacitated stuff remains working :P)
