Thanks so much, techtalk.cc, for responding with your excellent diagrams.
I had followed those steps earlier, when I first joined this site, but for some reason the options for editing the avatar and the signature did not show up. That's why I asked my question.
I uploaded my avatar OK.
QUESTION:
In what format should I input my picture into the signature text editor so that it will show up as an image?
I tried a number of different formats for my hosted image, but each time I previewed the signature, it just showed the text of the format and not the picture of the image.
Please be precise in telling me the correct format and write out an example, if you don't mind.
You can unclose brackets if need be, so that I can see the appropriate form, and I can close them back when I upload my signature.
Also, how does one edit a post *after* one posts it?
Thanks again,
Larry

@techtalk.cc
I decided to use a text-only signature.
It had less than 255 characters, the character limit.
I submitted it both at foolsdesign.org and techtalk.cc and got the message "Your profile has been updated" on each site.
But my profile does not show up on my monitor.
I deleted all my cookies, restarted my computer, resubmitted my signature on both websites, and got the message "Your profile has been updated" on each site, but the signature still does not show up on my monitor.
What's up with that?
BTW, this kind of thing never, never happens at MSFN. There, everything always is as smooth as a newborn baby's behind.
Eagerly awaiting your reply,
Larry

Dear Larry,
Glad that your avatar is working smoothly.
If you would be kind enough to read those links at the bottom of all pages, especially the one named "Rules, terms and conditions". There, you would be finding the answer to your questions about the signatures.
Please don't hesitate to post your questions, if you need further assistance.

...member signatures.
Even though you can have a signature in your profile, it will not be visible below your posts. This is because signatures attached to each post can be very distracting and repetitive when reading a topic. Upon reading a post, the signature looks almost like the next post or even a commercial banner depending on the type of the signature. Unwillingly the brain will start reading it and it can be very tiring and distractive from the main subject after a while.
There are some thoughts to put the signatures in the right side of each post below the posters' names. Perhaps it will be added in the future. Meanwhile, feel free to add your signatures in your profiles if you wish. They are still visible in the profile page.
Please don't hesitate to post your questions, if you need further assistance.

No need to rename those files anymore.
The .IMG file extension is now allowed in our "Archive" file extension group.
Thank you for reporting it.
