Facebook's new 'DeepFace' program is just as creepy as it sounds.

Facebook owns the world's largest photo library, and it now has the technology to match almost all the faces within it. Yes, even the ones you don't tag.

Facebook announced last week that it has developed a program called "DeepFace," which researchers say can determine whether two photographed faces are of the same person with 97.25 percent accuracy.

According to Facebook, humans put to the same test answer correctly 97.53 percent of the time -- only a quarter of a percent better than Facebook's software.

The takeaway: Facebook has essentially caught up to humans when it comes to remembering a face. The program was developed by three in-house Facebook researchers and a professor at Tel Aviv University.

First I saw this one, Google keyboard update comes with cloud synced personlized suggestion, which in short is basically A FUCKING KEYLOGGER.

Google has rolled out an update to its own keyboard app on Android in the Play Store, the update is significant in that it now comes with personalized word suggestion synced from the cloud from other Google services.

...and then I saw this which feels really nasty, Microsoft snooped through blogger's email to find source of Windows 8 leaks.

In short, some Microsoft employee stole some source code, emailed it to some "blogger". That "blogger" was using Hotmail/Outlook.com. Microsoft snooped through that "blogger"'s email (!) without a court order to find out who leaked the stuff. Their "terms of service" allows them to open your emails as they want but still, this is very nasty stuff.

When will it be enough? When is it time to say fuck Google, fuck Microsoft and fuck their "cloud"?

They can shove their "cloud" so far up in their collective asses that they taste it in their mouth.

Fuck you Microsoft.

Go read this: You must pay $100 to deploy your own software in Windows.

Reminds me of...

NEC launches facial recognition technology to identify Hong Kong shoppers.

The ICT company said in a statement that it has combined its NeoFace facial recognition with an innovative electronics platform to create the industry's most, flexible, high-performance face-analysis solution.

The system uses compressed and encrypted wireless links to communicate with a master facial information database server in a secure location.

...that's right, prison!

Of course, they will sell it to you as a great shopping experience!

...any industry to offer an ultra-personalised customer experience by recognising the face of each and every customer as soon as they set foot on the premises.

So remember how PayPal releases new app to use with Galaxy Gear, utilizes S5 fingerprint reader and they sell it to you as a secure thing, for your own good?

No, not really. It is all about YOU becoming THEIR SLAVE. These biometrics have nothing to do with security.

Fingerprint lock in Samsung Galaxy 5 easily defeated.

The hack, by researchers at Germany's Security Research Labs, is the latest to show the drawbacks of using fingerprints, iris scans, and other physical characteristics to authenticate an owner's identity to a computing device. While advocates promote biometrics as a safer and easier alternative to passwords, that information is leaked every time a person shops, rides a bus, or eats at a restaurant, giving attackers plenty of opportunity to steal and reuse it. This new exploit comes seven months after a separate team of whitehat hackers bypassed Apple's Touch ID fingerprint scanner less than 48 hours after it first became available.

"Perhaps most concerning is that Samsung does not seem to have learned from what others have done less poorly," Schlabs said in a video demonstrating the hack. "Not only is it possible to spoof the fingerprint authentication even after the device has been turned off, but the implementation also allows for seemingly unlimited authentication attempts without ever requiring a password. Incorporation of fingerprint authentication into highly sensitive apps such as PayPal gives a would-be attacker an even greater incentive to learn the simple skill of fingerprint spoofing."

Assumption that everyone has a unique fingerprint from which they can be identified through a computer database is flawed.

Nobody has yet proved that fingerprints are unique and families can share elements of the same pattern.

Looks like the stupid mandatory smartphone kill switch for California failed, although narrowly. They are going to try to bring the bill back again. Why would anybody want a phone that could be shut off by the government to silence the citizen's? That's just ridiculous, and I can't believe more people don't wake up and see what a mandatory kill switch really means. California has more dumbasses in it than any other state, and a high percentage of people here don't speak English. Yes, there's silicon valley, but that's a small percentage of the overall amount of sheep that do whatever they're told.
