The idea of robotic soldiers that can shoot-to-kill has a long history in science fiction, perhaps most famously realised in The Terminator movies. The history of real robots designed to perform a similar function is significantly shorter.

Back in 2006, the South Korean firm Samsung, unveiled a robotic sentry called SGR-A1 that is designed to replace human counterparts in the demilitarised zone between North and South Korea.
