Hello,
I am more or less doing a project of installing Windows ME on a Thinkpad R60. The process so far has been nearly perfect. Aside from a motherboard resource conflict, which cannot be fixed, I just need a Windows 9x driver for Soundmax Audio (945GM chipset) and get the wireless card to work.

A while ago, I did this project on a Dell Latitude D600 and problemchyld tweaked the broadcom wireless driver to work on a Windows 9x machine. He did this and his C600 worked fine with it.

If possible, is anyone here capable of modifying this very driver to work on Windows 9x? The driver installs but gives an error just like the driver problemchyld had modified.

I believe this driver is likely to work if modified due to its age. It was compiled around the near-end of Windows 98/ME support. I just happened to notice that drivers meant for successor systems occasionally work on their predecessors, if the predecessor's lifespan did not quite end.

Boy, it's a tough one. I certainly can't do this but maybe you are lucky and someone around here can. :???:

Someone edited my first post to include another driver...unfortunately, I can confirm it does not work.

Looking at the INF file extracted from your RAR:
; Installs ar5211.sys (NDIS 5/5.1 driver) on NT platforms (2000, XP and greater)
; Installs ar52119x.sys (NDIS 5 driver) on 9x platforms
there is no ar52119x.sys in your download, however the same file can be extracted from the following using 7-zip:

https://content.us.dynabook.com/content ... twlan8.exe

Hope this helps!

I'm seeing references to people saying that the Atheros Client Utility is required, I obviously can't confirm, but here's a link:

https://support.dynabook.com/support/vi ... tId=461288

By the way, the files from that site are self-extracting, I think they'll extract to a folder when you run the EXE (alternatively extract with 7-zip), you'll still need to go to the Device Manager and point to that folder for the drivers or run the EXE files in the folder....

While I'd try the above first, I'll attach a file with newer versions of the driver and the monitoring utility (you could try it out, not sure any of this will work for you).

I found one more updated version of the driver with the 9x file included. Again, not certain about any of this, but this is the latest that I can find.

Anyway, several you can at least try.

What device ID are you looking at specifically?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCI

Kinda odd, but I note that the inf for the newest driver I found that includes the ar52119x.sys file the line:
[ControlFlags]
ExcludeFromSelect = \ ;for win95 and legacy support
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0013
The same device isn't excluded in previous versions.... :?:

FYI, there are several utilities out there to help identify devices, here's a couple (can't attest to quality):

One last addition (sans reply from JiaoTongNan):

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds013753

I think this is the same drivers with a different name, probably has the client utility (or something similar too).
